Only Rich can Afford Super Visa?


I can sympathise with immigrants wanting to have the parents visit –I am a onetime immigrant myself. However, there are all ready provisions for visitor visas, and bringing parents here for two years amounts to not much less than a “landed immigrant” status; since who is going to put ol’ grandma on a flight back home against her wishes?


The requirement of medical insurance, while expensive, is a minimum requirement. Why should Canadian taxpayers foot the bill for the inevitable medical cost incurred by the “visiting” grandparents? One just has to visit a medical clinic in an immigrant neighbourhood here to see the results of the “family reunification” program: elderly parents waiting in line for medical attention, with their children providing translation services.


My hat’s off to the Conservatives for tightening up on this abuse of Canadian hospitality.

NEW 10-YEAR SUPER VISA FOR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS LIVING ABROAD

The Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has introduced a new 10-year multiple-entry Super Visa for parents and grandparents who wish to visit their children and grandchildren in Canada. Until now, visiting parents or grandparents could only remain in Canada for a maximum of six months at a time. After that, they would have to leave the country and apply to re-enter. Now, parents and grandparents who are approved for a Super Visa will receive a multiple-entry visa valid for 10 years.
