The Super Visa Approval Rate

The Super Visa approval rate in Canada has reached a record high of 77 percent. Since its introduction in December 2011, over one thousand grandparents and parents have got their visa applications approved. This program was started with an intention of reuniting families and providing visitors a hassle free stay in Canada. Canada has always welcomed immigrants with open arms and with the commencement of this scheme things are expected to get better.

Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney said, “I’m pleased that the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is working as intended and giving large numbers of eligible parents and grandparents an opportunity to spend extended periods of time with their families in Canada.”

He also said that Canada’s per-capita immigration rate has been among the highest in the world. “Immigration has always been a sustaining feature of Canada’s history and continues to play an important role in building our country”, he added.

Getting a Super Visa is very easy. An applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

Submit proof that your host earns a minimal income.
Show that they possess a comprehensive Canadian medical insurance.
Undergo the immigration medical examination.
The Super Visa permits the parents and grandparents of a permanent resident to visit them for 10 years. However, the visa has to be renewed every 2 years. Earlier, visitors to Canada could stay in Canada for six months at a stretch. An additional fee had to be paid in case of an extended stay. Nonetheless, Super Visa applicants will use the standard six-month visa application form.

The Canadian government plans to admit twenty-five thousand parents and grandparents to Canada during 2012. Brampton-Springdale MP Parm Gill was very happy with the success of this campaign by the federal government.  “This initiative has provided a large number of eligible parents and grandparents with an opportunity to spend more quality time with their families in Canada”, said Gill.

Gill also said, “I have spoken with many of my constituents about the Super Visa and I am pleased to report that I have received an overwhelmingly positive response. Many have noted that this program allows parents and grandparents a more straightforward avenue to visit Canada without placing a burden on our taxpayers or unneeded stress on families.”

According to officials, 99 percent of the applicants met all the requirements that are needed to get a Super Visa. Reports confirm that 80 percent of the Super Visa applications were processed to a final judgement within 41 days. Though the numbers of applications are expected to increase soon, the Canadian government has decided to abide by the processing time of 8 weeks or less.

‘‘With this program our Government set out to make it easier for parents and grandparents to visit their family in Canada for longer periods of time,’’ Parm Gill added.

‘‘Within only a few short months, we have surpassed expectations and will continue to work hard to meet the ambitious benchmarks that have been laid out for us”, said Gill.
